Commenting On Scoops & Related Multimedia


Scoop provides a highly streamlined framework for communication through in-context commenting. When you make a comment it is always about a specific scoop (issue/task/topic) and most likely a specific media item within that scoop. You can use choose from voice and text commenting depending on the demands of the situation.

Commenting on a Scoop

You can add a general comment on a given scoop when your comment is not about a specific media item such as a picture or a reply to someone else’s comment.

On Mobile App:

  1. In the scoops list locate the desired scoop and select to open. This takes you to the given scoop’s overview tab.
  2. Locate and open the comments tab (identified by a double-balloon icon).
  3. In the comments tab…

    iPhone / Android: tap the add general comment link located on the top left
    Blackberry: click the new buttonat the top of the screen
  4. Select the method of input for the given comment: voice or text
  5. Type or speak your comment and when satisfied press save
  6. In Online mode, the new comment is immediately transmitted. In Offline mode this happens the next time you run synchronization.

On Web App:

  1. In the scoops list locate the desired scoop and select to open. This takes you to the given scoop’s overview tab.
  2. Locate and open the comments tab (identified by a double-balloon icon).
  3. In the comments tab press add general comment.
  4. Type your comment in the provided dialog and press save.

TIP: it is always better if we can comment about something specific. This gives others a better chance at understanding the exact meaning we are trying to communicate. So, whenever possible, take a picture, add a video and then make a specific comment about these. With pictures you can also use the innovative Scoop Markup feature to get even more direct with your comment.

Commenting on Media Items

Commenting on media (as opposed to just making general comments or status updated) has always been one of the main philosophies of Scoop. From experience, we know this to be simply a much more informative and direct mode of communication that reduces the possibility for errors and speeds up the flow of information especially for distributed or remote teams. Scoop allows users to add comments for each specific picture, video or document (web) and later search for and view all comments for specific media items.

On Mobile App:

  1. In the scoops list locate the desired scoop and select to open. This takes you to the given scoop’s overview tab.
  2. Locate and open the pictures tab or video tab for which you plan to make a comment
  3. Select the picture or video and…
  4. In the comments tab…

    iPhone / Android: tap open the specific picture then tap on the comment icon located on the bottom right
    Blackberry: click the comment button (balloon + icon) located below each picture in the picture gallery
  5. Select the method of input for the given comment: voice or text
  6. Type or speak your comment and when satisfied press save
  7. In Online mode, the new comment is immediately transmitted. In Offline mode this happens the next time you run synchronization.

On Web App:

  1. In the scoops list locate the desired scoop and select to open. This takes you to the given scoop’s overview tab.
  2. Locate and open the pictures tab, video tab or documents for whichever item you plan to make a comment
  3. Select the picture, video or document from the viewer and type your comment in the provided comment box. Alternatively you can add a MarkUP if you are commenting on a picture.

Viewing Comments: 3 Ways

There are three primary ways to view comments in the Scoop environment. You can view all comments for all scoops, all comments for a specific scoop or comments for specific media item.

On Mobile App:

  1. To see all comments for all scoops: in the home page of the mobile app select comments from the main bottom menu bar.
  2. To see all comments for a single scoop: open the given scoop and select the comments tab from its overview screen.
  3. To see all comments for a specific media item open the given picture or video and…
  4. iPhone: tap open the specific picture/video then tap on the actions icon located on the bottom left, select related comments

    Android: tap open the specific picture/video then press the handheld options key and select related comments

    Blackberry: currently does not support this action

On Web App:

  1. To see all comments for all scoops: in the home page of the web app select comments from the top navigation options located just below the Scoop logo.
  2. To see all comments for a single scoop: open the given scoop and select the comments tab from its overview screen.
  3. To see all comments for a specific media item, navigate to the specific media tab and click on the desired picture, video, or document in the viewer. Comments related to this media item or document can then be viewed in a list below the viewer.

Adding a MarkUP Comment to a Picture

Scoop’s MarkUPTM feature (patent pending) provides a highly efficient way for describing details and nuances in pictures. Normally, describing these details requires lengthy and error-prone email or voice messages. With MarkUP users simply point out the exact location(s) in a given picture and communicate their meaning using text or voice in context to the picture.

On Mobile App:

  1. To see all comments for all scoops: in the home page of the mobile app select comments from the main bottom menu bar.
  2. To see all comments for a single scoop: open the given scoop and select the comments tab from its overview screen.

  2. Locate and open the pictures tab for the given scoop and click on the desired picture
  3. Select add comment using MarkUP feature located above the comment box; use on-screen instructions to add a text Markup to the selected picture.
