Sending & Receiving Data On Mobile App

Your smart phone is increasingly your mobile office. Scoop helps you get the most from your handheld by providing you and your team access to the latest updates on issues that matter. Scoop features a sophisticated merge-based algorithm that continuously synchronizes all data between your web account and your handheld.

Scoop’s Mobile Working Modes

Working Mode Usage Scenarios

Scoop allows you to work in one of two synchronization modes. You can switch between these modes as the situation demands. Scoop mobile app maintains an offline copy of all of your data so you can access all your scoops and continue to work even when there is no network connection.

  • Online Mode: in this mode any new scoops you create (or others create and share with you) and any changes you or others make to existing scoops are transferred to you as they occur. This mode is ideal when you have good access to the network since you send your updates immediately and receive updates from others as they occur.
  • Offline Mode: there are times that you may not have access to the network (e.g., when on remote worksite or in flight); also there are times when you wish to work undistracted. The offline mode allows you to continue to work adding scoops, making comments or changes and later synchronize all your changes when you are ready.

Switching Between Working Modes

Our goal was to make it easy to switch between these modes while always keeping you informed of which mode the Scoop app was in. Follow the instructions below to change the working mode on each mobile app:

  2. This button always shows the current working mode: online or offline
  3. Tap the button to change the working mode, read and confirm the pop-up message regarding mode change.

  2. This indicator always shows the current working mode: online or offline

  4. Read and confirm the pop-up message regarding mode change.

Synchronizing Scoop Data To / From Mobile

Scoop features a sophisticated merge-based algorithm that synchronizes all data between your web account and your handheld. With the sync feature you won’t have to manually transfer any media or notes you capture with your handheld. When you get back from the field your data is already transferred and backed up on the web and you have likely already communicated it to your team via sharing and commenting.

Synchronization runs automatically in online mode. In offline mode you decide when to run synchronization for instance after having completed a new scoop or having made changes to existing scoops. To run synchronization manually follow these steps for each mobile app:

iPhone App

  1. In the app’s scoops list or comments list screens, locate the sync button (at top left)
  2. Click sync, the button becomes greyed out and synchronization begins; small activity propeller can be seen in status area above the screen
  3. When sync completed, the button returns to normal active state
  4. Watch for new item indicators (e.g., new scoops, comments) after sync is complete.

Android App

  1. In the app’s scoops list or comments list screens, press the handheld options hard key and select synchronize
  2. Watch for new item indicators (e.g., new scoops, comments) after sync is complete.

Blackberry App

  1. In the app’s scoops list or comments list screens, located the sync button (top header bar, double-arrow) and click (alternatively you can call up synchronization from the Blackberry menu)
  2. Watch for new item indicators (e.g., new scoops, comments) after sync is complete.

Restoring Scoop Data To New Handset

Scoop’s restore feature allows you to remove the existing copy of your scoop data from your handheld and replace this with data from your web account. This feature is useful when you switch to a new handset or when you change your SD card or in any cases when you may need to refresh the scoop data on your mobile device. To run restore follow these steps for each mobile app:

iPhone & Android Apps

  1. In the app’s home screen select options from the main menu bar
  2. In the options screen, select restore scoop data; this initiates the restore wizard
  3. Read restore wizard instructions and warnings carefully before proceeding
  4. Restore wizard first deletes all scoop data from your handheld before downloading a fresh copy from the web account

Blackberry App

  1. In the app’s home screen select settings from the main menu bar
  2. In the settings screen, select advanced settings
  3. In the advanced settings, select restore all scoop data from server
  4. Read restore wizard instructions and warnings carefully before proceeding
  5. Restore wizard first deletes all scoop data from your handheld before downloading a fresh copy from the web account

NOTE: depending on volume of scoops, the wipe and restore operation may take several minutes. If you are restoring a large volume of scoops it is advisable to do so when your handset is connected to the Internet via a Hotspot or Wi-Fi connection.
